My place

There are places in your guidebook, and there are places recommended by reliable sources.  Then there are the places that you find on your own, or that are introduced to you by strangers that will probably become your friends by the end of the night: "we're going to this cafe, you should come along."  There is something special about these kinds of places.  It is not just the pride of finding some place cool without any guidance.  It is that these are your places.  You didn't just find them; they were calling you.  There are literally thousands of cafes and bars you could have walked into down hundreds of different streets.  But you made a left, when you could have made a right, and you went up three blocks, when you could have stopped at the first.  And what's funny is these special places are everywhere.  No matter where you go - Berlin, São Paulo, Shanghai - you're going to find your places.  They are already there, waiting for you to open the door.
